Our Story

A Beautiful Space for Treasured Memories to Take Place

Rooted in our desire to offer memorable and personalized experiences, The Oakley began as a privately-owned, undeveloped piece of land on Lake Lanier. Our owner, Angela Zubar, wanted to do something meaningful with such a beautiful spot on an iconic Georgia lake, and thus, the initial idea for The Oakley was born. Fast forward to today and we are pleased to offer bespoke wedding and special events lakeside in a place that has been loved by the Zubar family for years.

Bought lake house

We purchased our lake house in October of 2018.

Acquired property

The property around the house was acquired a few years later.

Met with architects

We met with the architects to discuss plans in February.

First wedding show

We attended our first wedding show a few years later in January of 2023.

First booking

That same month, we had our first couple book us for their venue!

Broke ground

We broke ground in the spring of 2023.

Tours started

We began offering tours of our property just a few months after.

Completed build

Construction was completed a year after it began in March 2023.

First wedding

We finally hosted our first wedding in April. Here’s to many more!

About the Owner

Meet Angela

Angela is the founder and head of operations at The Oakley. She is the one who had the initial vision for the property and continues to be our North Star, ensuring every one of our clients leaves with their event exceeding their expectations.

Angela gets to know each of our clients personally, making sure everything at the venue is perfect come the day of their special event. Everything Angela touches is imbued with a genuineness and warmth that is intrinsically a part who she is. As a testament to this, our guests frequently say that she is one of the best parts of their experience working with us!
